The Bloc Identitaire is an extreme right French nationalist political group, founded in 2003 by former members of Unité Radicale and several other nationalist groups.
The Bloc Identitaire claims to represent all "young French and Europeans who are proud of their roots and of their heritage." It opposes what it calls "miscegenation" and "imperialism" (both American and Moslem), and has organized campaigns and demonstrations, sometimes violent, against Moslems, Jews, Communists, and other non-white ethnic and political groups. The Bloc identitaire runs the Nationalist Press Agency and the Novopress website, and identifies itself with other neo-Nazi and extremist groups in other parts of Western Europe and North America.
The Bloc Identitaire was renamed to Les Identitaires in 2016. At the same time, its youth branch, Génération identitaire, became an autonomous movement.
One of their more imaginative, and less violent, activities was the organization of suppers with pork soup as "identity suppers" (soupes identitaires) to attack and belittle certain ethnic groups. The group has been banded as "discriminatory and xenophobic" by the HALDE (High Authority for the Struggle Against Discrimination and for Equality - Haute autorité de lutte contre les discriminations et pour l'égalité) a French independent administrative authority which "has the right to judge all discrimination, direct or indirect, that is prohibited by law or an international agreement to which France is a signatory."

On 2021-03-03, the Council of Ministers issued a decree which dissolved the G n ration identitaire on the grounds that it is a hate group whose activities are "inciting discrimination or violence against individuals because of their origin, race and religion", while "its military form and organization" reveal that it "can be regarded as having the character of a private militia". The appeal to the Council of State was rejected on 2021-07-02. Since then, the former members have continued their activities through a number of smaller local groups. [source]

The flag of the Bloc identitaire / Génération identitaire, with either a yellow (photo, photo, photo) or black (photo, photo) field, has the symbol of the "lambda Spartan" centered on it in contrasting black or yellow. A number of these flags were used by the Bloc Identitaire at the Pigs' March, organized on 14 May 2011, in Lyon.

Génération identitaire also used a white flag charged with its
specific logo, which consisted of its name inscribed in two rows, word
GÉNÉRATION in blue on white field and word IDENTITAIRE in white on a
blue panel: photo, photo, photo.
The shade of blue was similar to that from the flags of Defend Europe
and Mission Alpes.

Defend Europe is an outfit of Génération identitaire aimed at "preventing migrants to enter Europe".
Six members of Defend Europe, from France, Austria and Italy, leased a ship named C-Star in order to "control" the NGOs that rescued migrants off the coasts of Libya. The ship left Djibouti in early July and was blocked for a while in Cyprus, being ironically suspected to help illegal immigration. On 5 August, the ship sailed off Libya, asking by radio the NGO ships to leave the area and promising to watch them. The ship was indeed on her way to Tunisia for refueling, but they were prevented to access the ports by fishers and members of workers' unions. Later on, the ship experienced engine failure; the ship of the German NGO Sea-Eye proposed assistance to the "Nazi ship", which refused it.
The C-Star "patrols" started only on 12 August and ended on 17 August after a dramatic decrease of migration in the area and the withdrawal of most NGOs. Defend Europe claimed this "success", which was mostly caused by the pressure exerted by the Libyan coast-guards.
The pathetic expedition ended in Malta, where the government, supported by the opposition, forbid access to the C-Star. The six activists joined Malta on a small boat.

In April 2018, Génération identitaire organized Mission Alpes to prevent migrants to cross the French-Italian border in the Alps mountains. On 21 April, some 100 people wearing blue coats established a "symbolic border" at Col de l'Échelle, a main gate of entrance to France. In the next weeks, they claimed to have prevented several migrants to enter the French territory, which could not be confirmed by any solid evidence.
On 29 August 2018, the three main organizers of Mission Alpes, the president of Génération Identitaire included, were sentenced to six months in prison. They were accused to have generated confusion by substituting themselves to official bodies in charge of the defense of law and order (Air and Border Police, Police, Gendarmerie and Land Forces) and to have disrupted public order and security.
